Crescent Bay | Laguna Beach

This past week I went to California for a family vacation. We spent 3 days at Disneyland and California Adventure. It was our Christmas present for last Christmas, but we didn’t actually go till this week so it wouldn’t be as crowded. Which it definitely wasn’t. It was awesome.

But, since we were going to be only 30 min from the beach, I asked my family if it would be ok if we took a little trip to a beach so I could get some photos. Ever since I have actually learned photography (end of 2008 – beginning of 2009, and still learning) I have wanted to get to the beach to get some of those amazing coastal shots. You’ve seen them in magazines, as your desktop wallpaper, or even in the galleries scattered around the cities. They are usually either of the piers with the nice, perfectly smooth water and the amazing sunset; or with rocks and cliffs and the water crashing against them and running smoothly off of the rocks back into the ocean. Those type of shots, the shots that you see everywhere and just think… man, I want to be there right now, that is what I’ve wanted to do for 3 years.

So, since I have an amazing family they said “of course!” and we took a trip on Thursday. We went down to Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach. It was pretty much perfect for what I wanted; cliffs, rocks, tide coming in, and right at sunset (only thing I would have liked, is clouds). Totally amazing.

I get all set up along some rocks that have clams (or whatever they were) all over them (literally covered), set up my tripod and camera, and just start shooting away.  Between shots, as I was looking through the camera at the amazing sunset, I was greeted by a nice shower from a wave crashing against the rock I was on, soaking my entire left side. Haha. Needless to say, I was constantly watching both the camera and the waves.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with the shots. For my first time at least. There are definitely some things I should have done different (like turned on the focus), and will hopefully remember next time, but I can’t complain. :)

Here are a few of the shots that I got while there.

Anyways, I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Thanks for looking.
